Frequently asked questions

Choose a finish with confidence, then confirm the details for your wall and project. For tailored advice, contact MacoAvell.

Which MacoAvell products are available?

The six products in this collection are Vellma (25 kg), Vellplas (10 kg or 25 kg), Vellcco (25 kg), Stonemix (25 kg), Vellwax Clear (330 g) and Vellwax Metallic (330 g). Ask us to help choose a finish for your wall and intended effect.

What is the difference between Vellwax Clear and Vellwax Metallic?

Vellwax Clear is a finishing wax that appears milky in the container and becomes clear when applied and polished as directed. Vellwax Metallic adds a metallic effect. Confirm the current metallic shades and the intended appearance using a sample. Both are supplied as 330 g packs. Ask for the coverage guidance for the current pack and intended application.

Where can Vellma be used?

Vellma is used for decorative interior walls and ceilings, including suitable curved features such as arches and columns. A smooth, correctly prepared substrate and the appropriate application method are important. Contact us before specifying a fireplace surround, a surface exposed to heat, or any unusual substrate.

Can these finishes be used outdoors?

The existing product guidance identifies Vellma and Vellplas for interiors. Vellcco can be considered for interior and exterior work with the correct preparation and protection system. Ask for written confirmation of the complete system for the location and exposure. Do not assume every wax or sealer is suitable outside.

Can I use decorative plaster inside a shower?

Direct shower areas are not recommended in the existing MacoAvell guidance. A powder-room wall may be suitable after checking moisture, ventilation and the proposed finish. A decorative wall coating is not a substitute for a properly specified waterproofing system.

Are Vellma, Vellplas and Vellcco waterproof?

No. The existing guidance does not describe these finishes in their natural state as waterproof. A suitable wax or protective coating can affect water resistance, but does not make the complete wall waterproof. Confirm suitability before use in wet or frequently washed areas.

Do I need a primer?

The existing guidance recommends a suitable water-based primer before Vellma, Vellplas or Vellcco. The correct preparation and primer depend on the substrate and existing coating. Ask us to confirm the system instead of applying directly to a damp, dusty or unstable surface.

What wall surfaces can be considered?

A wall should be sound, even, clean, fully cured and free from damp or movement. The existing guidance lists skimmed surfaces, sound painted walls, plywood and MDF, but boards and joints need assessment for movement, moisture and suitable preparation. A listed substrate is not automatic approval for every installation.

Which trowel should I use?

The existing application guidance recommends a rounded-edge stainless-steel trowel. Keep the blade clean and in good condition, and choose the size and technique for the intended finish. Damaged edges or excessive pressure can mark the surface.

How long should I wait between coats?

The existing FAQ advises allowing 24 hours between additional coats of Vellma, Vellplas and Vellcco. Confirm the instructions for the supplied product and finish system, because humidity, temperature, thickness and the specific application stage affect timing. Recoat timing and final curing are different; do not force drying with direct heat or strong airflow.

Why does my Vellma finish not look polished?

The existing guidance emphasises a very smooth wall, a suitable rounded-edge trowel and correct burnishing timing. Overworking the surface can damage it. A compatible Vellwax finish may change the sheen. Ask us to review the substrate and application before adding more material or polishing further.

Can I use a different sealer?

A different sealer may alter colour, sheen and texture. Confirm compatibility with the exact plaster and intended exposure, then test on a sample before treating the whole wall. Do not assume it provides the same protection or warranty as the recommended system.

Can I apply the products myself?

The existing FAQ describes Vellplas and Vellcco as more approachable for DIY work and Vellma as requiring more skill, especially for burnishing. Practice on a sample panel and follow the preparation and safety instructions. For an exact project finish or a large area, discuss training or professional application with us.

How much material will I need?

Send the wall area in sq ft, the product and texture you want, and information about the substrate. Consumption varies with preparation, layer thickness, technique and waste. A quotation should confirm the calculation; a pack size alone is not a guaranteed coverage area.

Will the colour match my screen or a project photograph?

Screens, lighting, application technique and the background can change the apparent colour. Choose using an authorised physical sample and, where appropriate, a sample applied under the project lighting. A project photograph shows that individual installation; it does not establish a verified colour code for another project.

How do I clean a textured wall?

Use a soft cloth and a gentle method suitable for the installed finish. The existing guidance suggests a lightly damp cloth, with mild detergent for suitable stains, followed by removal of residue. Test discreetly first. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals and soaking the wall; ask for finish-specific care advice if uncertain.

How often should a wall be re-waxed?

The existing FAQ suggests a three-to-five-year review interval for re-waxing. Actual need depends on the installed wax, use, cleaning and wear. Inspect the finish and confirm compatibility before reapplication; the interval is guidance, not a promise that every wall needs or tolerates the same maintenance.

Can a damaged area be touched up?

A small repair may be possible, but its colour and texture can differ from the surrounding finish because of age and application technique. Send photographs and the product or invoice details so we can recommend an approach. Keep any safe leftover material labelled with its original batch information.

What should I do if the finish cracks?

Cracks may relate to movement in the underlying wall, excessive coating thickness or unsuitable drying conditions. The cause needs assessment before repair; simply covering it may not resolve it. Send photographs and the installation details, and investigate active structural movement or water entry with an appropriate specialist.

What should I do if the coating peels?

Moisture, a powdery or unstable background, contamination and preparation problems can affect adhesion. Peeling can have more than one cause, including a material or workmanship issue. Contact us for assessment before removing a large area; do not assume a photograph alone establishes responsibility.

Will a lime finish solve mould or damp?

Do not use a decorative finish to conceal active damp or mould. First identify and correct moisture entry, condensation and ventilation problems, then confirm the preparation and coating system. We do not present the finish as a guaranteed mould treatment or a substitute for remedial work.

Are all products certified low VOC?

Ask for current, product-specific technical evidence if your project has a VOC or environmental specification. Descriptions on an older page are not a substitute for a test result or certificate. We do not claim that every product has a particular certification or that one material suits every health requirement.

How should I store unused product?

Keep containers closed, labelled and protected from unsuitable heat, cold and moisture, following the supplied label. The older FAQ states a two-year shelf life for an unopened product, but the applicable shelf life must be checked for the particular product, batch and storage history. Do not rely on one general period for the whole range.

Where can I read the safety information?

The Resources page provides the supplied company profile, catalogue and product safety documents. Read the document for the exact product. The Stonemix safety data sheet is Revision 2.4 (Approved), dated 13 October 2026. Contact us if a current approved technical document is required for a specification.

Does MacoAvell provide a warranty?

The existing five-year limited warranty concerns eligible indoor residential and light commercial walls installed directly by MacoAvell’s trained team. It has defined coverage and activation conditions. Read the warranty terms and your project documents. Read warranty terms.

Can you deliver to my address?

Online store delivery is limited to Malaysia. Send the delivery postcode, product variants and quantities so serviceability and charges can be confirmed. An overseas project reference does not mean that the online store delivers internationally.

How much is delivery and when will my order arrive?

Delivery charges and estimates depend on the confirmed order, weight, packaging and destination. We will confirm them before requesting payment where a quotation is required. Use the delivery estimate supplied with your order.

How do I track a delivery?

Use the courier name and tracking details supplied for your confirmed shipment, or contact us with the order reference. We can help identify the correct courier and tracking service.

Can I change or cancel an order?

Contact team@macoavell.com.my or +6012 484 7030 as soon as possible with the order reference. We will check its status and explain the available options. A cancellation promise supplied when you purchased, including any applicable earlier website offer, is not removed by a later website update. This also does not limit rights concerning defective or misdescribed goods.

What is the returns policy?

If an order is defective, damaged or does not match the agreed description, contact us for assessment and the applicable remedy. If a 30-day satisfaction refund offer or another return promise was part of your purchase, retain the order evidence and contact us within that period; a later page revision does not remove that promise. Please request the applicable written return terms before placing a new order.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Contact team@macoavell.com.my or +6012 484 7030 with the order reference and a description of the damage. Keep packaging where practical and provide photos if available. We will explain the assessment and replacement, return or other applicable remedy. Photograph requests do not override your consumer rights.

How will manual QR payment work?

If manual DuitNow QR payment is offered on your confirmed order, verify the recipient in your banking app and pay the exact confirmed amount. Use the order reference where available. Authorised staff must verify payment against the bank or payment provider before the order is treated as paid; a screenshot or “I have paid” message alone is not confirmation.

How can I become a dealer or applicator partner?

Use the contact form or email team@macoavell.com.my, choose Dealer or Applicator, and tell us your location, relevant experience and what you would like to discuss. This starts a conversation; submitting an enquiry does not automatically appoint you as an authorised dealer or applicator.

Who should I contact about a project?

For general enquiries, the main office WhatsApp is +6012 484 7030. Office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM and Saturday, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM, Malaysia time. The after-hours contact is +6012 388 6933; this is not a guaranteed 24-hour response service. For commercial projects, use +601111111703 for the commercial enquiry team.

Do I need to upload a project photograph?

No. Project photos are optional for an initial enquiry. If you choose to share one, avoid people, identity documents, account information or confidential details that are unnecessary for the enquiry. Marketing consent is separate from requesting assistance.
