Appearance: flat colour or applied texture
Conventional paint can provide a comparatively uniform coloured surface. Decorative plaster introduces hand-applied movement and a different material character. Neither choice is automatically better for every room.
Compare the exact products
MacoAvell Vellplas offers a matte Marmorino direction, Vellma a polished marble-inspired direction and Vellcco a more pronounced texture. Vellwax Clear and Metallic are finishing treatments for compatible bases; they should not be described as lime plaster themselves.
Moisture problems need their own solution
Leaks, condensation, unstable plaster and active cracking require assessment before either coating is applied. Vapour behaviour depends on the full coating system. Do not assume that all conventional paints trap moisture or that every lime-based finish prevents mould.
Prepare the substrate properly
Remove loose material and correct defects. Texture may make some minor visual irregularities less obvious, but it cannot repair structural movement or cover persistent dampness safely. Confirm the compatible primer or base treatment for the wall.
Compare installed costs
Include surface preparation, material, labour, application stages, access, final treatment and cleaning. A feature wall may be the most useful place to invest in decorative texture while simpler surrounding walls retain a quieter finish.
Request evidence and care guidance
Ask for current technical and safety documents, supported VOC or other performance information where needed, and instructions for cleaning and repairs. Broad claims about a material family are not a substitute for evidence about the specified product.
